I had the distinct pleasure of shooting at Bonanza Creek Ranch courtesy of Mrs Hughes and her family. Movie making started here in 1955 with “the Man From Laramie” with Jimmie Stewart! Some of the more recent movies made here include: “3:10 to Yuma”, “Cowboys and Aliens”, “Wild Hogs " and “Silverado" which was “ a sweeping, glorious-looking western that was at least a full generation removed from the classic films. Lawrence Kasdan, who produced, directed and co-wrote the film ''Silverado'' made its landscapes bigger, its people smaller and its moral polarities less powerfully distinct than those of simpler, more starkly beautiful westerns gone by.” But who can forget the four heroes played by the stars that were very likable? These included Paden (Kevin Kline), the drifter who is first seen alone on a vast expanse of desert, sleeping in his long johns; Mal (Danny Glover), a black man who battles frontier racism and displays a touching love for his family; Jake (Kevin Costner), a classic rake and daredevil, and Jake's brother Emmett (Scott Glenn), the solemn cowboy with whom the story begins.
